The Job List
Terms & Conditions
Clear expectations before we get started.
These terms apply to work carried out by The Job List. By accepting a quote or booking work with us, you agree to these terms.
1. Quotes and pricing
Where possible, we provide a fixed price based on the information, photographs and job details supplied by you.
The quote covers only the work described in it.
If the job turns out to be materially different from the information supplied, or additional work is requested or discovered, we will explain this before carrying out additional chargeable work.
We will not increase an agreed fixed price simply because the job takes us longer than expected.
2. Additional work
We are always happy to help with extra jobs where time allows.
Anything not included in the original quote will be treated as additional work. We will agree any additional cost with you before proceeding.
If additional work cannot reasonably be completed during the original booking, we may arrange a further visit.
3. Materials
Your quote will state whether materials are:
included in the quoted price;
charged separately; or
being supplied by you.
Where we purchase materials specifically for your job, we may request payment for those materials before ordering.
Special-order, personalised or non-returnable materials may not be refundable if you later cancel, except where your statutory cancellation rights provide otherwise.
4. Customer-supplied items
We are happy to install items supplied by you.
You are responsible for ensuring that customer-supplied products are suitable, complete and in reasonable condition for installation.
We are not responsible for faults or defects in products supplied by you. If an item is unsuitable, damaged, incomplete or cannot safely be installed, we will discuss the options with you.
Any additional work resulting from problems with a customer-supplied product will only be charged if agreed with you.
5. Walls, concealed services and hidden conditions
Before drilling, cutting or fixing into a surface, we will take reasonable care appropriate to the work being undertaken.
Customers should tell us about any known concealed pipes, cables, underfloor heating, unusual construction or other hidden services that could affect the work.
Some services, defects and construction details cannot reasonably be identified before work starts.
If we discover an unexpected hidden condition, we may stop work to discuss the safest way forward and any effect on the price.
Nothing in these terms excludes our responsibility to carry out the service with reasonable care and skill.
6. Access and working area
Please ensure that we can reasonably access the work area at the agreed time.
Where practical, furniture and personal belongings should be moved away from the immediate work area before we arrive.
If we cannot safely or reasonably access the job, we may need to delay, rearrange or amend the work.
Please let us know in advance about parking restrictions, permits, controlled parking or access arrangements. Any unusual parking or access costs will be discussed with you where they are not already included in the quote.
7. Appointments
We will make reasonable efforts to arrive at the agreed time.
Occasionally circumstances outside our reasonable control may cause delay. If this happens, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.
If we need to rearrange your appointment, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.
8. Customer cancellations
You can cancel or rearrange your booking by contacting us.
Where you cancel at short notice, we reserve the right to recover reasonable losses that we have genuinely incurred as a result of the cancellation.
For cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment, this may include a charge of up to £35, together with any non-refundable materials purchased specifically for your job.
We will not charge for losses we have avoided, for example where we are able to fill the appointment with another customer.
This does not affect any statutory cancellation rights you may have.
9. Your 14-day cancellation right
Where you book our services online, by telephone, message, email, or away from our business premises, you may have a legal right to cancel the contract within 14 days without giving a reason.
If you ask us to carry out work during that 14-day period, you must expressly request that we begin the service early.
If you then cancel after work has started, you may be required to pay a reasonable amount for the service already provided.
If the service has been fully completed following your express request to begin during the cancellation period, you acknowledge that your statutory right to cancel may end once the service has been fully performed.
10. Deposits
Some bookings may require a deposit, particularly where materials must be purchased or a larger period of time is being reserved.
Any required deposit and its purpose will be clearly shown on your quote.
Deposits form part of the final price.
If a booking is cancelled, we will deal with the deposit fairly and in accordance with your statutory rights. We may deduct genuine costs or losses that we have reasonably incurred where permitted by law.
11. Payment
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due on completion of the job.
Payment can be made using the payment methods advised by The Job List.
For multi-visit or larger jobs, staged payments may be agreed in advance.
If additional work has been agreed during the job, this will be added to the final amount payable.
12. Problems with our work
We want you to be happy with the work carried out.
If you believe there is a problem with our workmanship, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible and give us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and, where appropriate, put the work right.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
13. Safety
We will not carry out work that we reasonably believe would be unsafe, unlawful or outside the type of work undertaken by The Job List.
We may stop work if an unexpected safety issue is discovered.
If specialist or regulated work is required, we will explain this rather than carry out work for which an appropriately qualified specialist is required.
14. Changes to the job
If you change the specification, location, product or scope of the work after accepting the quote, the original price may need to change.
Any revised price will be agreed before the changed work is carried out.
15. Our responsibility
We are responsible for loss or damage that is reasonably foreseeable and caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for loss caused by:
defects that already existed before our work began;
inaccurate or incomplete information supplied to us;
defective customer-supplied products; or
events outside our reasonable control,
except where the law says otherwise.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
16. Your statutory rights
These terms do not affect your statutory rights.
The Job List will provide services with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with applicable UK consumer law.
